d) Marine Corps Parents and The Care Package Project needs your help. Our landlord has asked all tenants in our building to move by May 1. We would like to take a moment to thank Jeffrey Smith, Bob LeMone, and Jay Burchfield for providing our current office space to us for 2 1/2 years at a greatly reduced price. Thank you; your contribution to our efforts helped to assure more of our dollars go into our Outreach Programs such as The Care Package Project, Purple Heart Family Support, and Operation PAL.

e) My name is Amanda, I am a volunteer at the Central Missouri Humane Society. Last Sunday alone, we checked in 31 animals. Our Humane Society is an open door shelter, which means that they take any animal that comes through the door.

My friends and I really wanted to help. We went on the internet and found a wesite called http://www.zootoo.com/. This is a website that lets you register your shelter and pets and earn points for a million dollar makeover to our humane society. You make an account and register your shelter as the Central Missouri Humane Society. All of the points that you earn will go to the shelter. At the end of the 50 days the top 20 shelters that have raised the most points will go into the 2nd part of a contest that leads to a millon dollar make over. Then they select the top 10 of those 20 shelters.

For the last 10 shelters America votes! We have a shot at winning but I need you and everyone you know to make an account and register our shelter and get points towards the Central Missouri Humane Society.

f) A statewide conference on Missouri drug policy reform sponsored by University of Missouri SSDP and NORML chapters takes place February 20-21, 2009, at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. The conference is free and will involve dialogue and discussion about state and federal drug policy reform from leading advocates across the country. Topics include - medicinal marijuana, drug laws in the state of Missouri, drug use and religions, and the future of marijuana laws under an Obama administration (plus so much more!).

We also have a Facebook page where you can receive updates on the conference.

g) Housing News from Bank of Missouri's Tom Stone

Rates are quite high right now. If you have been reading the last few newsletters, you will have a greater understanding of why. This week, the economic stimulus package and TARP funds, rate the top of the list.

We now have talk of a $15,000 credit for first-time home buyers, this is a good thing but it tends to be a "a cart before the horse" program. It is great that you can get a $15,000 low interest loan but please remember that when the government is involved there are strings.

As far as the rest of the stimulus package goes, I just hope that Congress gets it right, because this change will have an effect on us for generations to come.
